Union Blow-up Rat on Route 14

The rat at the intersection of Rakow Road and McHenry Avenue.

The last time the big balloon rat was in Crystal Lake, it was across Rakow Road from its intersection of McHenry Avenue.

Union blow-up rat on Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Yesterday it was on Route 14 in front of where Colonial Cafe used to be. Some clothing store is taking over the space, has demolished the old building and is in the process of construction.

The rate is an expression of organized labor’s displeasure of where the contractor is procuring workers.

So are the union workers carrying picket signs.

  1. If unions didn’t demand top dollar for sub-par work people would hire them instead of avoiding them at all costs. I just came back from a show at McCormick Place and the union electrician took 2 hours to wire 1 220VAC outlet…that should be 15 minutes of work!!!

  2. Not all union guys put so little effort into the work. Not a big union fan myself, but I come from a union family where I was taught that you work hard for that day’s pay and work well. Dad and brother particularly are artisans with heavy equipment and that’s no exaggeration. Besides, there are a lot of non-union construction (and other) outfits who do lazy schlock work. It is the man, not the organization.

  3. I have question for those union members picketing with the Rat. The signs say “on strike.” How can you be “on strike” when you were never hired in the first place?
