Ad Points to Metropolitan Area Rip-off to Aid Taylorville Area

It’s always interesting to look at ads right before and during a legislative session.

Today in the Chicago Tribune is an ad paid for by business and environmental interests calling themselves STOP Coalition.

It’s a full page (p. 6).

The ad opposes a Taylorville-area electric generating plant, which opponents say will force electric users to pay seven times the price of other providers.

Here’s the text of the ad that is running on Capitol Fax Blog:

Broad and Diverse Coalition Opposes the Taylorville Energy Center/SB 1653

[The following is a paid advertisement.]

Illinois legislators have already voted against Tenaska Energy’s proposed Taylorville Energy Center (TEC) power plant two times. But during the upcoming legislative session, Tenaska plans to pressure lawmakers to approve SB 1653 and make us pay up to seven times today’s market price for electricity.

Tenaska can’t build and finance the plant without subsidies from Illinois electric consumers because it’s not needed and it’s uneconomic.

That’s why there is broad and diverse opposition to the TEC and SB 1653, including the following groups that have publicly stated their opposition:

• Illinois Manufacturers’ Association
• Illinois Retail Merchants Association
• Illinois Competitive Energy Association
• Illinois Chamber of Commerce
• Illinois Sierra Club
• Environment Illinois
• Over 200 other Illinois businesses and non-profits that operate in Illinois

To join these organizations in saying NO to paying seven times the market price for electricity, take a moment to let your legislator know that you oppose the Taylorville Energy Center and SB 1653.

  1. I don’t know how a shape of a star could influence anyone to vote one way or the other.

While I don’t agree with the use of a county emblem being used as a political symbol especially on a wine bottle, unethical yes, but probably not illegal.

What disturbs me is his name plastered all over the walls of the building and on county property. I see it on the prisoner busses, snowmobiles, boats, and the radar trailers they park on the roadsides.

Nygren is an elected Sheriff, but plastering his name on taxpayer provided property much like the Chief of a small kingdom should cease. Doesn’t the County Board have some oversight?

They must approve the cost associated with his rolling political billboards.

His name entering the Sheriff’s Office should suffice.

That alone makes me see him as an egomaniac.
