Women Wanting to Carry Guns for Self-Protection Organizing Tuesday Night at Panera Bread

Sally Wiggins, former independent candidate who ran against Gordan Graham for Judge, seeks to erase party lines on the issue of women's personal protection. Here she poses with a woman at the Wonder Lake Parade.

An email from Sally Wiggins reveals a new group about to be formed in McHenry County:

“…as of last evening’s McHenry County Right to Carry meeting the Women of McHenry County Right to Carry seeing a void in the scope of the group decided to fill it by forming our own branch of Right to Carry (associated with the main group but Women driven).

“Our focus is about raising awareness among Woman on why Right to Carry is important to us and educating Women that supporting the right to carry does not equate to wearing Camo or hunting (though women can do such things) … it also means high heels, manicures, pedicures, dog walkers, runners, and soccer Moms who realize the importance of personal safety and the need for right to carry in Illinois.

“Because I only know one speed … We are already having our first meet and greet membership drive this Tuesday @7 @Panera Bread on Rt 14 in Crystal Lake.”

  1. Can you imagine how much clearer everything regarding Bianchi’s prosecution would be right now if the follow blindly voters of McHenry County would have just voted for Sally?

  2. It seems that even in today world equality is still not there.

I am happy women are involved in this concern and need of right to carry.

One only needs to look at the news every night on TV to see several people were shot in Chicago only. Then you hear about another Virginia Tech shooting or another woman has gone missing somewhere.

We all remember the older woman that had bricks thrown through her window at home and at her. She was bullied and when threatened with bodily harm shot her attacker.

People applauded her for her actions and the liberals wanted her arrested for having a gun.

More reports of attackers being shot by the victims is going to make the bad guys think twice. It is not about the attackers rights but the public’s right to be safe and to protect one’s life and property.

A woman or a man that is properly trained is a deterrent to bullies and bad guys by making them wonder if she or he could be dangerous to them. Ladies be strong, be trained and remember gun control is about hitting your target.

  3. If you read Illinois law carefully, you can carry an unloaded, concealed weapon right now.

You just have to have a FOID card and carry it in a “container.”

For a woman, that could be a purse, handbag, shopping bag, basket.

For a man, that could be in his briefcase, zipper binder, lunchbag. Holster on a belt is probably not a container, although I’m not sure why it would not be.

State law does not define “container.” Unfortunately, you’ll probably get arrested in McHenry County or in one of its municipalities.

On the way to the brass ring, you’ll fork over a lot in legal defense fees, which you’ll recover when you sue the pants off the arresting officer and his department.

If you carry this way and get arrested, keep your mouth shut, except to call your lawyer.

  4. Hey Gus thank you for weighing in and getting involved.

Your statement “If you read Illinois law carefully, you can carry an unloaded, concealed weapon right now” is correct … if … however we agree that the weapon is a rock … because the way I view it …

An unloaded revolver in a purse is simply a rock.

Look forward seeing new faces Tuesday Night!

  5. Right you are, Sally. But it’s a rock that is about six seconds away from being a loaded weapon. Of course, the legal dangers are high in Illinois, even if it is used to defend oneself. Sally, will you please add me to your mailing list for announcements of your meetings? gus@woodstockadvocate.com Let me know about the turn-out on Tuesday for an additional article.

  6. Thanks Gus

6 seconds … even if true, much can go wrong during that crucial 6 seconds

… first to load my weapon during that crucial 6 seconds I have to take my eyes off the attacker thereby giving him/her the advantage and I get attacked …

or even worse bad guy’s bullet reaches me first during that crucial 6 seconds

… either scenario 6 seconds is too long and my boy likely doesn’t have a mom.

Women wanting to carry guns for self protection. Our next meeting is Monday January 9 @Panera @7 – we will launch our website and FB January 1. All are welcome.

Yes, Gus we added you to the mailing.
    Best Sally
