Walsh Wraps Up Week

Joe Walsh votes week of December 12, 2011.

A communication for Congressman Joe Walsh:

Walsh’s Weekly Wrap-Up

Dear Friend,

Tomorrow, Saturday December 17, I am hosting a town hall meeting in Hoffman Estates. This event is open to the public so come out and let me know what’s on your mind! More information about the town hall is below.

This week, I held a field hearing in Woodstock to hear from local business owners about how the economic uncertainty created by Washington is preventing them and other small business owners from expanding their businesses and creating jobs.

I heard testimony from three local business owners Eric Treiber, Perry Moy, and Craig Larson, and the main theme of their testimony was that Washington should get out of the way and let small businesses create jobs.  Some of the suggestions that the witnesses made about ways that Washington can help small business create jobs were:

  • to stop tinkering with the tax code and make it permanent so that small businesses can plan for the future;
  • make business lunches deductible and permanently renew the 15 year depreciation schedule for business construction and equipment; and
  • place a moratorium on all new regulations.

On Tuesday, I held a jobs fair in Gurnee. Over 450 jobseekers attended and met with the forty businesses offering information on jobs.

This is the second jobs fair I have held this year. Jobs fairs are a great way to get employers and jobseekers together and get Illinois back to work.

This week in Washington, I voted in favor of the payroll tax extension that was passed by the House on Wednesday. This bill will not only create jobs for out-of-work Americans, but it will also reform unemployment benefits and reduce taxes by $88.3 billion dollars over ten years.

With over 25 jobs bills sitting in the Senate, it is time President Obama and his liberal allies stop blocking our efforts for job creation. Overregulation, higher taxes, and more stimulus spending simply just does not work.

We need to get the government out of the way so small businesses can create jobs.

I also voted against the megabus which increases the budget by more than $1 billion over last year’s levels and adds more to the national debt.

I have consistently opposed past legislation that does not offer drastic spending cuts and an honest effort to balance the budget.

This ‘megabus’ is an attempt by Speaker Boehner to work with a President and Senate that is unwilling to budge on wasteful spending and financial irresponsibility.

While I applaud Speaker Boehner for his leadership, this bill is not enough. I came to Washington to change the way this town does business and to get our fiscal house in order.

I work for you,

Joe Walsh

  1. Why would Walsh be voting on the FY10 Defense Authorization Act? Wouldn’t it be the FY12 or 13?
