[WASHINGTON] – FreedomWorks PAC, a grassroots service center of more than 1 million activists nationwide dedicated to fighting for lower taxes, less government and more freedom, has endorsed Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL) for re-election over his opponent, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).

This latest endorsement gives Manzullo a 10-0 sweep in conservative group endorsements over Kinzinger.

“During their time in Congress together, Manzullo and Kinzinger’s records were clearly different. It’s not difficult to recognize that Manzullo is the fiscal conservative and Kinzinger is the moderate,” said FreedomWorks PAC Executive Director Max Pappas.

“The record speaks for itself.

“Manzullo is a proven conservative who will stand up to both Democrats and Republicans who want to spend too much.”

Pappas said FreedomWorks decided to make the endorsement following consultation with conservative grassroots groups in Illinois’ 16th Congressional District “who overwhelmingly concluded that Manzullo is the one true conservative in the race.” In addition to the many more votes Manzullo took to cut wasteful spending,

Pappas pointed out that Kinzinger dropped out of the conservative Republican Study Committee and joined the “timidly moderate” Republican Main Street Partnership last year.

Kinzinger is also part of the big-spending “Tuesday Group,” whose PAC has contributed to his campaign.

Kinzinger’s group is known for opposing “deep cuts to spending” despite the $15 trillion debt, Pappas said.

“It’s a tremendous honor to receive the endorsement of FreedomWorks PAC, a giant in the conservative grassroots world that has done so much to further our mission of smaller government and more freedom in America,” Manzullo said.

“FreedomWorks and the nine other significant conservative groups that have endorsed me looked closely at our voting records and determined I’m the only conservative in this race who is serious about cutting wasteful Washington spending, balancing the budget, and paying down the national debt.”

In addition to FreedomWorks, Manzullo has been endorsed by:

  • Illinois Tea Party
  • RedState Editor and CNN political contributor Erick Erickson
  • Family-PAC federal
  • Eagle Forum of Illinois
  • Illinois Federation for Right to Life PAC
  • Illinois Citizens for Life federal PAC
  • 60 Plus Association (boasts more than 7 million conservative senior activists)
  • Illinois Conservatives (4,000 conservatives across Illinois under 35 years old)
  • The Madison Project (national pro-life, pro-family group)

Conservative groups are lining up behind Manzullo because they know he is the only candidate in the race who is serious about cutting wasteful Washington spending, balancing the budget, and paying down the national debt. In fact, Manzullo voted last year 79 more times than Kinzinger to cut $209 billion more in spending than Kinzinger. In addition, Manzullo voted for the only budget alternative that would have cut $9.1 trillion in spending and balanced the budget within 10 years. Kinzinger voted against the bill.

The huge disparities in voting records have also caught the eye of the national groups that rate Members of Congress on their willingness to cut spending. Those conservative ratings based on votes from the 2011 Congressional session include:

  • American Conservative Union lifetime scores: Manzullo 96, Kinzinger 72.
  • Club for Growth: Manzullo 85, Kinzinger 56
  • Heritage Action for America: Manzullo 84, Kinzinger 63.
  • Americans for Prosperity: Manzullo A+, Kinzinger B.
  • National Journal (conservative composite score): Manzullo 74, Kinzinger 58.
