Jack Franks Robo-Calls about His Bill to Force Referendum on At-Large Election of County Board Chairman

Jack Franks

A friend of McHenry County Blog got a robo-call, presumably from State Rep. Jack Franks, Friday morning.

Let me quote the email I received,

“We got a robo-call from . . . well, he never gave his name. . . this morning.

“The call went something like this:

Ken Koehler

‘I’ve called to ask your opinion on a bill that I have filed in the House of Representatives addressing county board chairman elections.

‘After the beep, please press 1 if you believe we should have our county board chairman elected by the citizens.

‘Or press 2 if you believe we should have our county board chairman APPOINTED (emphasis in his voice) by county board members.'”

Franks and Koehler have been having a feud. It appears to be continuing.

Franks, of course, could have his supporters pass petitions and a referendum could be put on the ballot.

But, I imagine that would be too much like work.

  1. YES – we should be able to elect.

Tired of the nepotism and making a career out of using our tax money.

KK has been at the trough too long.

  2. Ken Koehler is a good man.

Have you attended any county board meetings? There are some who might make a good chairman, there are others who don’t have the common sense to do the job.

Koehler must win the post by getting the votes of his peers on the board.

    They work with him.

    They know him.

    They know his work.

The problem with voters deciding is that they do not stick around to see what their choice is doing and do not hold them accountable.

The idea that Koehler has been at the trough too long…how many politicians who are elected by popular vote are career politicians?

You sound as if you think the county voters would somehow hold the chairman to a higher standard.

    I doubt it.

  3. Mr Patriot in Action: County Board meetings bear little resemblance to order and democracy; they’re a joke. Getting the votes of your peers is accomplished by arm twisting, bullying, coercion and intimidation.

Even though his sale to Metra fell through, Koehler has forged on and recently managed to get his kid in line for a HUD housing project.

Knowing when the money is coming down the pipeline is a politician’s equivalent to insider trading.

It should be obvious when the same names pop up when there’s a buck to be made.

  4. I get the feeling that Jack Franks wants the voters to elect the chairman so he himself can run for Chairman of the Board and truly run McHenry County as his own little serfdom.

  5. I cannot believe that someone has the audacity to defend Koehler on this website.

Save your “Koehler is a good man” crap for the Northwest Herald comment sections.

The people that read this blog are actually informed.

Kurtz should run the county board. I don’t agree with her on an issue or two but she has integrity and leadership. She also received the most votes of any Republican primary candidate.

  6. Tell Jack Franks :When he gets people to start caring about Local Government, then the voters will decide.

Till then we’re appointing the Chairman!
