CL Council to Discuss Slot Machines & Video Poker Machines Tuesday Night

A video gambling machine in Crystal Lake.

The Crystal Lake City Council is set to discuss whether slot machines and video poker machines should be allowed in Crystal Lake bars and restaurants Tuesday night.

While one can comment early on, Mayor Aaron Shepley usually encourages those who want to speak on an agenda item to wait for it to be called.

Way down at the bottom of the agenda is Number 23:

“Video Gaming – Discussion Only”

  1. I thought we already went through all this a year or two ago.

Wasn’t this idea thrown out of the county or the state or something like that just recently?

  2. I believe it is an ongoing issue.

When it was voted down in the county, there was the possibility of it coming up again.

Maybe Skinner can give an explanation.

    I remember it being confusing.

  3. I think it would be a great idea!

Those “Adults” who choose ‘recreation’ should be able to do so freely. Great way to generate income by allowing for personal choices.

    Who would this activity hurt?

    Nobody.

Please pass it and let’s get something, anything, going for Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake was ‘once’ the crown jewel of McHenry County.

A nice hotel, restaurant, and ‘mini-casino,’ and some ‘Columbians!’ WHOA!

Sheriff Nygren knows how to get the ball rolling. I’m quickly becoming his biggest fan! That man knows how to Git R Done, I’m totally enthralled!

    Nygren for U.S. Senate!

Breath life back into CL…..You won’t regret it!

  4. I wondered when this was gong to be addressed after the last CL City Council meeting when the council denied a request from a potential business owner to open up a pawn shop because of the business did not reflect the character of the city.

With regard to Cindy’s question- the county voted to not allow the machines, but that only applies to unincorporated portions of the county. Each city/village etc would need to make their own determination.

  5. Right on, Andrew!!!

    Get people to work.

Limit government and get a decent tax code (I like flat tax myself) and some responsible oversight with the taxpayers money and we would not try to get money in such a manner.

    We need family values!!
