McHenry County Dem vs. McHenry County Dem

Kathy Bergan Schmidt

The Daily Heraldhas a fascinating quote from District 3 McHenry County Board member Kathy Bergan Schmidt:

“No other county other than Will County has hopped on this bandwagon.

“Isn’t that curious?

“We need to say that (county) executive is not equal to (county board) chair, and we need to keep saying it and saying it and saying it.

“It is equal to czar.”

Jack Franks

The McHenry County Democratic Party’s highest elected official is Marengo’s State Rep. Jack Franks.

Schmidt was talking about the petition for County Executive he passed, of course.

= = = = =
Franks seems to be the person to whom Schmidt is referring to as the prospective “czar.”

It is interesting that another District 3 candidate, Mike Walkup is also taking on Franks’ power grab.

  1. Of coures, she got the Czar phrase from me. I used it in my speach to the Board before their discussion.

I have since coined a new term, which is now patent protected: “Frankenczar”.

I give Cal permission to use it wih an appropriate graphic.

  2. In fairness, Kathy’s pretty loopy.

    Nothing about this is shocking.

  3. What I find loopy, is the reality that people will buy the goods Jack is selling without understanding and circumspection.

Many of us are for a change in the way the chairman is elected…we want to make the choice and not let our eleced board do it for us.

But collectively, we dont underfstand the difference between that and the choice that will be offered through Jack’s efforts on the ballot in November…Those that do understand look to Will County in horror..

  4. Looks like a re-election ploy by Ms. Bergan Schmidt.

    What a joke.

How is your lack of understanding Franks’ fault?

This initial effort was to allow a choice in three months.

    Again, THREE months.

That’s plenty of time for folks to [collectively] educate themselves.

I’m sure Cal will spend weeks shouting down the idea and the Herald will run actual stories.

Voting for something is an affirmation of support.

Simply allowing something to be considered is not.

  6. Well… Is putting the words “Jack want to empower the people to elect the County Chair” on a sign probably paid for by IL taxpayers an affirmation of support?
