Grafton Township Considering Salaries Tonight

The Grafton Township Board will be considering setting salaries at tonight’s 7:30 meeting.

Guaranteed to be plenty of politics with candidates having announced for office and jockeying for position.

It probably will be the best show in McHenry County.

The Huntley Park District building where the Grafton Township Board will meet tonight at 7:30.

It will be held at the Huntley Park District Building.

Grafton Township Considering Salaries Tonight — 27 Comments

  1. Decisions Decisions —- The Bears and Packers or a Grafton Township meeting?

    A very difficult choice.

  2. All part-time elected officials should get paid minimum wage.

Based on a 30 hour per week schedule, that would put the supervisor at about $13,000.

    Seems pretty fair to me.

  3. I brought this subject up on HN a few weeks back hoping to get a feel for what others in our community thought.

Didn’t really get feed back from many other taxpayers.

Now if the topic was a new building, I think they would be all over that.

I feel the salaries that are already in place are a little high and there should be no raises.

Put the money into some good community projects!!!

  4. I hope many people to show up… I think it would be awesome for everyone to see this board of trustees at “work”.

  5. All you need to do is wait for the law suits to be filed next week to find out what happened.

  6. I hope these people do not follow the foolish example set by Alg. Twp.
Had a friend that lives in Alg twp call and really blow his top!!

  7. Linda is Part-Time anyway.

    She is never there.

Between Bingo and court, she doesn’t have time to serve US!!

Isn’t that right Linda….I mean LuvLuvPam?

  8. If residents don’t show up and voice their opinions, it would only give the trustee’s the right to raise their future salaries.

If citizens are lethargic, they deserve what they get. In my opinion the salaries of all township trustees and the Supervisor are outrageous.

  9. FYI, I had a friend call and tell me 5 people showed in Alg. Twp.

    Very sad

  10. That is how it happens.

The average person doesn’t have time to monitor whether the elected officials in their community are living up to their promises- fiscal responsibility.

    What a joke.

Where in the world can you find a part time job that pays what any of these positions pay?

None of these people could command such salaries on the private market.

This is not a Springfield issue, this is not a Madigan issue- this is in your backyard, directly impacting your tax bill.

Where is the angst against non-union republican elected officials who are being paid a wage from tax dollars, with healthcare and a pension?

At least Teachers don’t get social security and pay into their pensions.

What about smashing the nepotism in this county, Andrew?

  11. What is a joke is the board of trustees and their failed attempt to take over Grafton Township while completely disregarding the law.

The board has lost its lawsuit and continues to cost the taxpayers money. Linda, the non-politician, continues to chug along.

Imagine if the board actually did its job and authorize Linda to, you know, pay the bills.

As you surely know the board must authorize all the bills to be paid.

And oh dear, the cards are cut off because the board didn’t want to do its job and instead play politics.

    Its all coming out.

  12. Jim, and others:

Are you aware that the Trustees get paid $100/meeting (so about $1,200/year)?

    How outrageous.

I personally think the Supervisor’s salary is pretty reasonable for someone who does a decent job.

    Sean:

How do you get quality people to run for executive positions if you pay them minimum wage?

What person in their right mind would take the scrutiny that comes with public service for $8.25/hour?

Gotta laugh at “Linda, the non-politician…”.

Linda, who spends taxpayer money printing newsletters that are one big political campaign piece.

The Board authorizes Linda to pay bills they think are proper – she doesn’t pay them.

They don’t authorize bills that were incurred improperly.

Their job is to audit the bills, not just wildly spend money like Linda does.

The cards were “cut off” because of unnecessary, wasteful spending.

Not sure what’s “all coming out”… this info is already out there.

  13. Linda has been ordered by a judge to pay bills and still can’t get that correct.

It’s a good thing the cards have been cut off, now she can’t spend our money for her own agenda!!!!

  14. I served as school board president at a time of significant transformation and public scrutiny- didn’t get paid a dime, but did it out of dedication and desire to serve my community.

Let’s face it- a township supervisor isn’t exactly making life or death decisions.

$13,000 for a part-time job as a local elected official is very reasonable.

If someone needs a big paycheck to serve his or her community in such a capacity, maybe their motives are suspect to begin with.

  15. The difference between a School Board President and a Township Supervisor is that one is a board member and one is a government administrator.

Both roles are important – but you don’t need to be a professional with related experience to be member of a board.

In addition to being the Board President, Township Supervisors do the accounting, serve as FOIA officer, etc.

You can make more than $13k/year working at McDonald’s.

It has nothing to do with motive – you can’t feed a family on $13k/year.

It’s about valuing our public servants, the decent ones, and making it worthwhile to do a good job.

  16. Regardless, they voted to lower every official’s salary tonight.

Supervisor will make ~$40,000, and trustees $75/meeting.

  17. HaHaHa….You seriously stayed up till 12:18 A.M. commenting on THIS site???!!!

    HaHaHaHa!!!!!!

  18. Nope, was staying up because I’m a night owl.

Thanks for your interest in me, though!

If you read my comments above you will see, like you, I’m not a fan of Linda Moore, but I’m also not a fan of people who pointlessly make fun of others.

Until you can add something meaningful to the conversation, please don’t address me. Kthxbai.

  19. Legally, the only person who needs to be a qualified “professional” is the assessor.

Local elected officials should be reasonably compensated for their time, but no one should be running for office in order to “feed their family”.

We’d be much better off if political endeavors were treated as part-time, short-term public service rather than careers.

The reduction to $40K is a step in the right direction- much better than the thieves in some nearby townships, but it’s still too high.

  20. My bad, some just seem to live for this nonsense, assumed you were one. A s s of me!

Anyone who is anti-Linda is o.k. by me…apologies!

  21. Maybe the comment section of Cal’s blog isn’t the correct place for this debate, but I can’t help myself.

I agree with you that most elected officials (like a School Board President, or a part-time Mayor who’s municipality has a full-time manager) shouldn’t be feeding their family off the salaries. B

ut, those that act as CEO and manage a government’s functions should be able to.

So, someone who works as Township Supervisor (at 30 hours/week) should have to get another full-time job to feed their family?

    That’s unreasonable.

If that’s the case, the only people running for office would be someone who is insanely rich or retired and doesn’t need a decent paying job.

I would rather have someone educated and experienced spending my tax dollars.

I guess we fundamentally agree on this one.

  22. Let’s see, $40,000 for 30 hours a week, plus health, dental and eye insurance, life insurance and I believe a pension plan.

Please tell me where else in this community can a person find a job with that kind of compensation.

The board did the correct thing by lowering wages to be more in line with our economy.

Our family is paying for their own health and dental and it’s highway robbery.

I would be grateful for a job, period.
