Sherman Hospital Expected to Partner with Advocate

Sherman Hospital’s patient wing.  Sherman was named the fifth most beautiful hospital in the U.S. by Soliant Health.

For whatever reason, Elgin’s new Sherman Hospital has decided that it cannot go it alone.

The hunt has been on for a partner for quite a while.

Now word has reached McHenry County Blog that Advocate Health Systems has been selected.

In days past, Sherman established perhaps the first urgent care facility in the country on Rout3 31 north of the intersection of Route 176.  (The Sherman Family Healthcare – Crystal Lake was closed in recent years.)

But a local hospital did not follow, even though money had been left by the Ames family to endow one.  (That money went to the Crystal Lake Public Library.)

Then local efforts to establish a Crystal Lake-Cary-Grove hospital were partially answered with the establishment of Good Shepherd Hospital north of Barrington.

With Centegra having been granted permission to build a hospital in Huntley on the northern edge of it service area, merging Sherman with that now two-hospital chain had to be less attractive.  Centegra had clearly chosen to compete instead.

Advocate has a presence in McHenry County through Good Shepherd.  Now that Barrington hospital will be partnership with Sherman Hospital.

Sherman Hospital Expected to Partner with Advocate — 4 Comments

  1. When is the ground breaking for Centegra Huntley? Let’s get going on this needed project.

  2. Cal – The Centegra will be located in Huntley, sadly not LITH. Still it will be just across the street/backyards from some of the residents of the village. The Jigsaw Puzzle that is Lake In The Hills borders even still baffles a lifelong residents such as myself.

  3. I’ll make the correction. Never can tell which part is in which village.

  4. As a Cary resident, I am still baffled by the rejection of Mercy’s proposal for a hospital located at Three Oaks & Route 31 that would actually serve the Cary/Crystal Lake area.

Centegra and Good Shepherd are each 30 minutes away from my house and that’s only if there is no construction or heavy traffic.

    Only Illinois requires pre-approval.

Most states allow the free market to determine need.
