David McSweeney took fingers to keyboard and wrote the following about his impressions of Springfield:

“After my first two months as State Representative, I can say that it is an absolute privilege to serve the residents of the 52nd district.

“While Springfield remains broken, I have received a lot of constructive feedback and positive reinforcement from my constituents.

“I am proud to say that my constituents are actively engaged in state issues and share my concerns about the future of our state from a fiscal standpoint.

“I have said that the ‘house is on fire’ and that we need to immediately enact pension reform.

“Illinois has

  • a debt crisis
  • high unemployment
  • a pension disaster
  • declining credit ratings and
  • the list goes on and on.

“Years of

  • inaction
  • horrible tax and spend policies
  • failed leadership
  • have put the future of our state in question.

“My approach to serving as State Representative was to simply start with what I can do personally in order to lead by example.

“This is why I declined a legislative pension and voluntarily cut my own pay and district office spending.

“I have also introduced legislation in the areas that address

  • repealing tax increases
  • property tax relief
  • transparency
  • curbing state spending
  • reducing government bureaucracy

“I have pledged to host town hall meetings on a regular basis and am proud to report that the first two town hall meetings were very informative and well attended.

“I believe that communicating with my constituents is key for me to be an effective representative of the district.

“We have tough decisions to make this legislative session.

“I remain open to hearing all my constituents’ views, concerns and opinions.

“To me, the issue of the day is our fiscal challenges and legislators must have the courage to address the state’s pension crisis, spending habits and tax policies.”

  1. David McSweeney is working hard and should be commended. He has put forward two bills and is on seven committees.

He is proving to not only be a strong conservative – but also a very diligent and skillful politician.

    Good for us.

    Respectfully,
    Andrew Gasser

  2. Andrew,

I hope McSweeney isn’t weakening, his last vote to give ComEd a raise was NOT appreciated.

This increase given to ComEd is for infrastructure.

I calculate this as the public paying for ComEd’s equipment, so ComEd gets bigger mega profits.
