Village Officials Review Spring Construction Projects

Fox River Grove, IL. Village Officials recently reviewed a report summarizing active construction projects in the Village. The report summarized activities for the following projects:

Metra Station Construction

Construction of a stand-alone warming station is nearing completion. Once the warming station is complete, the existing warming station will be demolished and will be replaced with a larger station that includes bathrooms and facilities for a possible vendor. Construction of a new platform was recently completed.

This $2 million investment in Fox River Grove is being funded mostly by Metra. Fox River Grove is paying $82,400 to cover lighting upgrades in the parking lot and platforms.

The project is anticipated to be completed by September.

Fox River Grove is part of Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line, which takes commuters from Harvard to Chicago, with stops in McHenry, Cary, Palatine, Arlington Heights and Des Plaines.

Road Resurfacing Victoria Woods Subdivision

Construction has begun to resurface roads, replace certain sidewalks and sections of curb on all streets in the Victoria Woods subdivision. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of June.
“The resurfacing of the Victoria Woods subdivision is part of the Village’s long-term plan to replace Village infrastructure”, stated Village President Robert Nunamaker.

Paving Lion’s Park

Construction has begun to pave the existing gravel parking lot in Lion’s Park. The newly paved parking lot will include 49 parking spaces, two will be handicapped spaces. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of June.

County Line Road Utility Extension

Construction recently concluded on County Line Road, which extended water and sewer utilities to a site designated to become the new Public Works Facility for the Village. Due to Illinois Environmental Protection Agency required upgrades at the Village’s Waste Water Treatment Facility, the Village will need to move the Public Works operations from the existing facility on Hillcrest Avenue.

In addition to extending utility services, a paved shoulder was also constructed on the west side of the street. This $240,000 improvement was funded by a $200,000 grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

Water Treatment Plant #1 Rehabilitation

Work recently concluded on a rehabilitation of Water Treatment Plant #1. The Village is served by two water treatment plants. Treatment plant #1 was constructed in 1924, with rehabilitations last occurring in 1972.

“This project was necessary to ensure the citizens of Fox River Grove continue to receive quality drinking water”, stated Village President Robert Nunamaker.

This project involved replacing antiquated piping, repainted the water storage tanks and replaced worn values, and other necessary equipment.

Work will begin soon on a project to construct walking paths in various parks and to re-pave the Opatrny Walking Path, near the Picnic Grove subdivision. New paths will be installed at the following locations:

  • Lion’s Park Baseball Field
  • Lion’s Park Playground and Swings
  • North River Park
  • Picnic Grove Shelter & Gazebo
