Teenage Boy and Girl Killed in Harvard Backyard – Updated

Two press releases from the Harvard Police Department:

Press release number 3:

On 07-25-13 Harvard Police at 0106 Harvard Police responded to a disturbance in the 1000 blk. Apple Valley Rd.

While investigating the disturbance, responding officers heard a gunshot in the area and subsequently found Miguel Andrade (m/19 yoa) of Belvidere, and Jacqueline Flores (f/17 yoa), of Harvard unresponsive in the backyard of a residence near Apple Valley Rd and 10th St. Andrade was subsequently transported to Harvard Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.

Subsequent investigation revealed an altercation occurred at a residence in the 1000 blk. of Apple Valley Rd. where Flores was believed to be injured.

Flores was subsequently located in the backyard of a neighboring residence, with wounds to her head.

Andrade was located in close proximity to Flores with a wound to his head and a .22 caliber revolver was recovered near Andrade.

The Harvard Police Department, in conjunction with the McHenry County Major Investigative Team, (M.I.A.T.) and the McHenry County Coroner’s is investigating this incident as a presumed homicide/suicide.

Preliminary investigation has determined Andrade and Flores had a prior relationship.

The McHenry County Coroner’s office has scheduled autopsies for this afternoon.

The Harvard Police Department would like to reassure the community that this incident appears to be an isolated tragic incident. There is no indication that this incident is gang related.

While investigating the disturbance, responding officers heard a gunshot in the area and subsequently found a male 19 yoa subject and female 17 yoa unresponsive in the backyard of a residence near Apple Valley Rd and 10th St.

The male was subsequently transported to Harvard Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The female was pronounced dead at the scene.

Subsequent investigation revealed an altercation occurred at a residence in the 1000 blk. of Apple Valley Rd. where the female was believed to be injured.

The female was subsequently located in the backyard of a neighboring residence, with wounds to her head.

The male was located in close proximity to the female with a wound to the head and a .22 caliber revolver was recovered near the male.

The Harvard Police Department, in conjunction with the McHenry County Major Investigative Team, (M.I.A.T.) is investigating; preliminary investigation has determined the male and female had a prior relationship, their names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family.

While investigating the disturbance, responding officers found two subjects (m/19 yoa and f/17 yoa) down in the backyard of a residence near Apple Valley Rd and 10th St.

The male subject was subsequently transported to Harvard Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The female was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Harvard Police, in conjunction with M.I.A.T. is investigating their deaths; at this time there is no indication of risk to the general public.
