McHenry County Board Votes to Keep Power Concentrated in Chairwoman’s Hands

McHenry County Board Chairwoman Tina Hill managed to keep her coalition together during the Rules Committee fight today.

Votes to decentralize power went down to defeat in what may have been a meeting with more roll calls than any other.

I’ll try to write more later, but my impression of the meeting was that members, especially new members, had the same hope that legislators did as Mike Madigan and George Ryan concentrated power in the Illinois General Assembly.

The state representatives could not imagine that their leader would allow the new rules to disadvantage them.

That, of course, was incorrect in the Illinois House, as power is now more concentrated than at any other time during the period since 1970 when I have watched it.
