Yesterday, McHenry County Blog ran a story about a possible gas-fired electric generating plant in Oakwood Hills.
Envisioned by Enventure Partners, the peaker plant would draw water from two 1380-foot wells are envisioned to pull 2,200 gallons per minute out of the Ironton-Galesville Sandstone Aquifer.
I asked neighboring Cary how deep its wells were.
Here’s the answer:
- 1345’
- 1304’
- 1300’
- 124’
- 194’
- 163’
- 155’
- 127’
- 105’
I am surprised that there is not more in the NWH about this.
McHenry Co has one of the most fragile water supplies inn the State.
Many years ago a hydrologist made a presentation at the County Building stating that out of 102 counties McHenry was in the top five for overused and under supplied aquifers.
We must protect our water supply from not only the pollution of land fills, but from over depletion buy use. Peaker plants use a horrendous amount of water.
They also sound like a jet engine. Watch out Oakwood Hills. This is a Trojan Horse
Justin, you are 100% right on this one.
