MCC Smith’s Salary Rises to $211,000

One of the items decided by the McHenry County College board on Thursday night was the salary for President Vicky Smith from July 2013 through June 2014.

You may remember how the old Board wanted to make the decision before three of its members (two having been defeated at the polls) went out of office.

Although incoming members and audience members made impassioned pleas for no decision on Smith’s contract be made until the new Trustees were sworn in, that was ignored.

The level of salary, however, was delayed because the report the Board was being asked to approve had no numbers in it.

Now, about five months later, after an hour secret meeting, Smith was given a 3% raise.

The vote was 5-2 with Mary Miller and Linda Liddell voting in the negative.

And the envelope, please.

$211,013.01

  1. What’s the total comp package? $211,013.01 + benefits ((vacation (how long?), sick pay (how much?), medical insurance (cost?), (retirement plan contribution (how much?), vehicle allowance (or car? how much?), outside consulting agreement? paid outside board positions allowed? guaranteed retention for ? years (or buy-out?); other perks ($ ???)).

    Total? $________ (over $300,000? more?)

  2. Reminds me of the scene in the movie . . .

“Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall, Who is the Fairest of them All”?

I think someone thinks she is Royalty.

  3. Local school boards create these problems with property taxes.

They need to change every 4 years.

Imagine what Vicky from Kansas will get for her pension.

  4. Did I read right that the board votes on their own raises?

If so, who was the brainiac who thought that idea up?

    Geez.

Again, like with D155 the board/superintendents are making the big bucks with benefits out the behind and tons of bonuses for themselves.

There should be a limit to how long they can serve.

We so need to clean house with the next election.

  5. Obscene.

There isn’t a school administrator, educator, or public employee worth that salary.

  6. HEY!!!

    She’s cute.

That’s all you need to know! LOL

  7. Elections have consequences.

If you would go to the meetings, you would see that the new members Wilbeck and Jenneer want transparency and accountability.

Parish and Walsh are on the right side more often now.

I have seen Vicki in action and the mall is open but no one is shopping!!

  8. Should have had MCC proposed Health Club analysis provider, Steve Willson, go in and help negotiate this characters salary.

He probably could have had her agree to a 10% decrease, along with some clawback of her previously paid windfall.

Just would need to put together, some real world numbers of Private Sector compensation.

  9. Please note that Mary Miller and Linda Liddell voted against the raise because they wanted to give Smith EVEN MORE MONEY.

  10. And next, the board members will be approving tuition increases!

    New “watchdog” trustees, my arse.

Next time you have your “transparency” tantrum, swoosh the red cape and yell “Ole!

    Gotcha again, taxpaying chumps!”

  11. Seems to me, the Board of Trustees put her salary just ahead of the Art Department Teacher pulling down over $200,000 per year. You can get as pissed as you want at the President, but no faculty member should be pulling down double salary.

If you don’t believe me look at Cal’s spreadsheet on salary from a few months ago. Get as pissed as you want, but however the Union allows for this and the Board of Trustees signs off on this. Is the true crime.
