CL Police Seat Belt and Cell Phone Crackdown from Nov. 18th to Dec. 1st

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police:

Crystal Lake Police to be out in force this Thanksgiving Holiday (Starting Nov. 18th)

The Crystal Lake Police Department is reminding residents to fasten their seat belts over the Thanksgiving holiday period or run the risk of receiving a ticket.

The Department will be conducting additional seatbelt enforcement efforts beginning November 18th and ending December 1st seating position, is required to wear a safety belt.

I think I counted eight police cars as I drove past The Breakers.

On May 2nd Crystal Lake Police were using The Breakers as a staging area for seat belt enforcement and cell phone activities.  A couple of days later they were at the car dealership being constructed on Route 14 across from Marin Chevrolet.

Nighttime drivers and passengers continue to be among those least likely to wear safety belts. Consequently, they are also among those most likely to die in motor vehicle crashes.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is proud that Illinois has a 93.6 percent daytime safety belt usage rate. However, far too many drivers and passengers still do not buckle up.

In Illinois, during the Thanksgiving holiday period for 2011, eight vehicle occupants died in motor vehicle traffic crashes–four of those deaths involved a drinking driver and over 800 individuals were injured.

Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Research has shown that when lap and shoulder belts are used properly, the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants is reduced by 45 percent, and the risk of moderate to serious injury is reduced by 50 percent.

  1. This is for our “safety” it has nothing to do with revenue.
The most unAmerican thing I have ever heard of.

  2. Police Departments are now a disgrace to our nation. They are the new tyrannical thugs of a government gone wild. They are no longer interested in “service and protection”, they are now only interested in POWER and control.

    Mr. Prim, are you listening?

We need a fair, rational, and concerned leader in law enforcement.

The Crystal Lake Police Department has morphed into an ABSOLUTE AGGRESSIVE DISGRACE.

They attack their own citizens, ticket hard working citizens on their way to work, arrest and help indict upstanding leaders so the department gets press coverage, and now they locate patrolmen to nail their own citizenry for revenue.

I thought this was just a result of the pathetically poor leadership from losers like Linder and Lowery.

Now it’s apparently the policy of the next administration.

Mayor Shepley, will you control your city?

SHAME ON YOU CLPD. SHAME ON YOU CITY OF CRYSTAL LAKE. YOU ARE NOW THE ENEMY OF YOUR OWN PEOPLE…..rather than our ally. SHAME ON YOU.

  3. Remember, when the seat-belt law was originally passed, the state PROMISED the law would NEVER be primarily enforced.

    Another law enforcement lie.

Shame on you CLPD. You are a disgrace.

I guess your all only interested in retiring at 53 and soaking the taxpayer on your bloated retirement package.

    Puke

  4. “or run the risk of receiving a ticket.” that statement right there proves that this is 100% a MONEY MAKER.

Forget the risk of being injured or dying in a car accident.
