As of December 16, former 10-year McHenry County Board member Lyn Orphal has been Interim Director of the McHenry County Mental Health Board.

The Agency has been in turmoil over bad financial decisions for a couple of years.

With the 2012 elections, a group of reformers on the Public Health & Human Service Committee led by Donna Kurtz (R-Crystal Lake) have reconstituted the Board’s membership.

A search has been going on many months for a permanent Director and, after the first Interim Director, Todd Schroll, resigned the Board decided to appoint another.

Orphal was the choice.

She is being paid at the rate of $85,000 per year. The term of her contract is six months, but it may be extended.

  1. After all the time and money spent on the search for a new Mental Health Board Director, all they have come up with is someone barely qualified for a six month term.

The Board needs to start looking for a real Director post haste!

An outside firm is not necessary.

aybe the new temporary director can post the position in appropriate forums.

Think about all the money spent on search firms and the time of all the Board members spent in hiring meetings and you’ll see huge government waste.

  2. She is not the least bit qualified.

Where in those experiences has she led a large organization?

I am sure she is a fine person, but to navigate those rough waters, you need someone with some skills.

This is such a “who you know not what you know” position.

    Shame on them all.
