To Those Who Ignore Primaries: “Why Would You Let Someone Else Decide?”

Reboot IllinosMadeleine Doubek, CEO of Reboot Illinois, has a column in the Chicago Sun-Times challenging people to voe in the Republican Primary Election for governor.

Doubek, who was political editor of the Daily Herald when I began my second eight years in the Illinois House of Representatives, gives the following argument:

“I know a lot of people skip primaries in Illinois because

  • they hate having to ask for a Republican or Democrat ballot or
  • the weather’s cold or
  • they assume they’re all bums and they can’t pick the lesser of the evils.

“To that I say, get over it.

“Why would you let someone else decide?

“Why would you give up?

‘Why would you cede half of the decision to others?”

I could not agree more.

  1. Doubek lectures apathetic voters, at the same time a Repub. Gov. candidate get’s called out for influence peddling.

Or is she just trying out stuff for a comedy club stint?

  2. CEO Doubek is exactly right.

Start pushing your neighbors, co-workers, family, friends (both of them) to vote on March 18, 2014, in the McHenry County Primary Election.

This will be one of the most important elections in decades.

Primaries traditionally have low voter turn-out, resulting in important decisions being made by the few.

    Make 2014 different.
