Steve Reick Proposes Change to Illinois Minimum Wage

Republican candidate for IL General Assembly seeks to expand employment for younger workers

Harvard- Steven Reick, the Republican candidate for the Illinois General Assembly in the 63rd District is proposing that the Illinois minimum wage be lowered to the Federal rate for those under age 24.

The proposal is meant to encourage greater employment opportunities for those who lack experience or skills as they enter the job market.

“In his State of the State address, Governor Quinn proposed raising the state minimum wage from its current level of $8.25 per hour to at least $10 per hour,” Reick observed.

“We cannot further burden employers by increasing the minimum wage, especially in an economy as weak as ours.

“Unemployment for those 16 to 24 years of age is twice that of the population at large.

“My proposal to lower State’s minimum wage for those under the age of 24 to the Federal level of $7.25 per hour will encourage employers to bring younger and lower skilled workers into the workforce.”

Illinois law provides a rate of $7.75 per hour for those under 18 and a $7.75 per hour probationary rate for the first 90 days of employment for those over 18, after which it increases to $8.25 per hour.

“While this will certainly not solve Illinois’ unemployment problem on its own, it will serve to encourage employers to bring the younger and less skilled into the workforce and provide them with the habits and skills needed to make them productive members of the Illinois workforce.”

  1. While it is good for this woefully underfunded and non-supported challenger to Democrat Jack Franks to bring forth his ideas for jump-starting the IL economy, as well his proposal having some merit, it is clear to me Reick is not cut-out for elective public office, as his campaign fundraising has shown.

I do hope he stays on the ballot, and makes Jack Franks have to work for his re-election this time, but seeing an unqualified candidate like Reick always makes me ask, where are the real qualified, experienced elected officeholders to challenge Jack Franks, beginning with Republicans elected on the county board who live in Franks’ district?

Like it or not, Reick is token opposition at best.

  2. Did he just get back from Colorado?

He is smoking sumptin ………this is ludicrous …
