Director of Specialty Court Programs becomes Certified Court Manager

WOODSTOCK, IL – Scott A. Block, Director of the Office of Special Projects for the 22nd Judicial Circuit of McHenry County, recently completed the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), Institute for Court Management Certified Court Manager program.

Mr. Block currently oversees the

  • Mental Health Court and
  • Drug Court programs

in McHenry County and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Columbia University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Webster University. Mr. Block is also a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and a Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional.

He was also a recipient of the McHenry County Business Journal‘s “10 under 40” award in 2009.

NCSC is acknowledged as the premier provider of services which improve the administration of justice, not only across the United States, but worldwide. NCSC is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership, research, technology, education and training to the state courts.

In order to successfully complete the program, individuals must complete course work related to court performance standards, caseflow management, human resources, fiscal and technology management and purposes of courts.

Mr. Block will continue his professional court education by taking part in the NCSC, Certified Court Executive, Fellows program which will include:

  • A three month distance learning component intended to prepare the participants with preliminary research skill. Following this initial stage, participants attend the three week full time course at the Nation Center for State Courts (NCSC) headquarters in Williamsburg, Virginia. While in Williamsburg, participants engage in a range of discussions designed to enhance conceptual and interpersonal skills and learn leadership and management theory as it applies to court management.
  • Requires the participant to prepare a masters-level research paper which relates to specific issues pertaining to court management.
  • Participants of the program present their research and evaluate their classmates’ reports.
  • Upon completion of the program, participants graduate the NCSC at the United States Supreme Court, often accompanied by the Chief Justice of the United States.
