Don Udstuen was a lobbyist for the Illinois State Medical Society, ultimately rising to the well-paid post of heading up the Society’s medical malpractice company.
On the Metra Board representing McHenry County, he was caught up in a bribery scheme with former Republican State Rep. Roger Stanley and turned state’s evidence. Reports at the time indicated that he kept a detailed diary of what he did over a 10-12 year period.
He provided incriminating evidence against Republican Governor George Ryan, recently released from Federal prison.
A report (again) calling for centralization of power by those like George Ranney, Jr. (whom I debated during the 1974 RTA referendum campaign), mentions Crystal Lake powerhouse Udstuen with reference to patronage. Below is the section where his name appears:
