The Jail Report that the Sheriff’s Department Doesn’t Want the Public to Read

Prior to the election, I filed a Freedom of Information request for the report that Joseph Summerill prepared for the Sheriff’s Office and presented to the County Board.

In the comment sections of some of the following articles, many people were asking for the complete report presented to the McHenry County Board by Joseph Summerill

This report has been called a “sales pitch” by two County Board members, but it is the best information that the County Board has received on the state of finances for the ICE detainees and other Federal prisoners (unless there is a secret report that has been prepared).

The basic question is whether county taxpayers are winning or losing

by renting out the top floor of the McHenry County Jail.

My request was not answered in a timely fashion (five business days), so I filed an appeal, which resulted in an Illinois Attorney General’s letter asking the Sheriff’s Department why no reply had been sent.

That led to my receiving a denial because the county is negotiating with the Federal government on jail reimbursement rates.

Naturally, I appealed again because the document was in circulation.

After the election, the Sheriff’s Department capitulated, the Freedom of Information Officer admitting,

“I have received information that the document you requested has been made public.”

In any event, here is the top secret, hush, hush report/”sales pitch” that McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren doesn’t want you to read:

If you were on the McHenry County Board, could you make a decision of whether to continue the ICE contract for housing Federal detainees from this information?

If not, what additional information would you need?

  1. Thank you Nygren/Zinke for wasting millions of tax dollars.

    So, what else is new??

I remember when Nygren was bragging how much money the jail brought in and he was asked how much money went out, he would NOT answer.

Well, you Nygren/Zinke folks, suck it up.

They now claim (like Obama) that these numbers are not correct.

Well at a county board meeting Nygren owned up to the fact that the numbers came from the Sheriff’s Dept.

A BIG thank you to all of you citizens and pols that kept these people in office.

NOW we have a chance to have a good sheriff in Prim.

  2. It would not matter what you gave most of the Board Members because they enjoy keeping their heads in that dark place,

As as a member of the voting public I would like a breakdown by individual – real names not required, just a reference such as guard 1, guard 2 etc. – of regular hours worked, overtime hours worked, training hours.

Next to that detail I would like to see a list of all monies paid to that individual and to his / her pension plan plus health plan.
