McHenry County GOP Chairman Mike Tryon swears in the new officers of the Algonquin Township Republican Central Committee. From left to right are Secretary Tom Venezio, Vice Chairman Chris Yaeger, Chairman Demetri Tsilimigras and Treasurer Larry Emery.  Both Venezio and Yaeger are first-term Precinct Committeemen.

Meeting at the Algonquin Township garage complex room next to the Sheriff’s Department’s Annex. 33 of the 44 elected Precinct Committeemen elected Demetri Tsilimigras Chairman by acclamation.

The defining votes was for Vice Chairman where current office holder Tom McDermott of Crystal Lake (Algonquin 25) faced off against newcomer Chris Yeager, who was elected Precinct Committeeman in Downtown Algonquin’s Precinct 1.

Yaeger won by a vote of 2,786 to 1,457.  (Each Committeeman was allowed to cast the number of votes cast by Republicans in his or her precinct.)

Subsequently, Crystal Lake newcomer Tom Venezio (Algonquin 2) was elected Secretary without opposition.

Also without opposition, Crystal Laker Larry Emery (Algonquin 66 and Township Trustee) was elected Treasurer.

After thanking McDermott for his service, Tsilimigras explained that he intended to look forward not behind.

“We didn’t do a great job in the past.

“We need to work together and get the job done, get people involved.

“Our party seems to be divided.  A lot of people don’t like each other.

“That’s unfortunate.

“I know I can’t please everybody and I’m not going to try [but] we need to start listening to people…to gather good ideas.”

The new Chairman listed the following goals:

  • Getting new people involved
  • Raising enough money so mailings can be affored
  • Quarterly meetings of the Central Committee
  • At least four meetings of the Executive Committee
  • Training for new Precinct Committeemen
  • By-laws, fund raising and community outreach subcommittees
  • Establishing better communications with other township GOP organizations

Tsilimigras listed three expectations of Committeemen:

  1. Attendance at quarterly meetings
  2. Walking, calling and mailing one’s precinct
  3. Lending support to other townships’ GOP efforts

“We all have some comment grounds,” he concluded.

“Let’s focus on those.”

Reformers Win Control of Algonquin Township GOP — 11 Comments

  1. “Reformers” who appear to have had the full support of Bob and Glenda.

Be careful throwing the R-word around, Cal, because this is starting to look like just a slightly different coalition.

  2. How refreshing to see new faces running our GOP at the township levels!

We need more fresh faces with fresh smart ideas in our other townships.

I believe “Bob and Glenda” agree!

  3. The new Chairman’s goals were well thought out and they ARE inclusive.

He set a very good tone for what we, as a party to serve the people, can achieve by working together.

  4. I would like Cal to get a quote from Mr. Tsilimigras and all the newly elected people in the Republican Party and ask them if they are the new reformers of McHenry County!

I would like to see who considers them a reformer.

Just because someone is new doesn’t necessarily mean your a reformer or for the new regime.

Be careful what you wish for “Reformers” because you might start seeing more and more Democrats getting elected into the Moderate McHenry County!

  5. Relax:

A common saying is that “there is nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead skunks”.

The problem with your “Moderate McHenry County” is that you have a bunch of so-called Republicans behaving badly like Democrats.

If you believe that those wishing to veer from this path would only cause “more and more” Democrats to be elected, then I suggest you inform your “moderate” friends on the Board to register as Democrats and run for office.

It is time to end the charade.

If the electorate then votes them into office, so be it, that is the way the system works.

  6. I do not understand why Illinois has so many townships and what their purpose are besides another expense.

Their duties can easily go into the county.

  7. John T.:

You need to educate yourself relative to the cost per road mile for townships versus the County.

In reality if we only look at the financial impact of township road districts versus county maintenance, we would totally shut down the county maintenance department and transfer county road maintenance to the townships.

The township yards are spread throughout the county and the thousands of ‘dead end’ miles wasted by county equipment would be reduced.

One caveat – pass state legislation to never allow unionization of the townships.

    The county is totally union.

  8. Jon Knight, So according to your thought is that anyone, that is not a Tea Party=Hard Right or a Hollywood=Far Left, is just worthless in your view.

No good ideas, no thought process, or ways to come up with things to move our country forward?!

If I believe in limited government and balanced budgets but disagree on Pro Life I don’t fit the Hard Right agenda.

Same thing goes with the Hard Left where if I believe in Socialist Medicine but believe in balanced budgets I don’t fit their agenda either.

    It is ridiculous thinking!

But when the Tea Party loses a Primary they won’t go out and support a “Moderate Republican” but would rather see a Democrat that is even farther than their beliefs because their person didn’t win the primary!

    Dumb Thinking!

There are a lot of Moderate Republicans and more and more Moderate Democrats in McHenry County.

Whether you like it or not they have a lot more votes than the hard right.

When it comes to a general election most of the hard right will not win.

  9. No Relax… you have it all wrong.

Your logic and premise is all wrong.

This isn’t about the tea party vs the moderates.

This is about establishment players like Mike Tryon, Mark Daniels, and Geri Davis who are fighting to hold on to power against reformers who only care about transparent and fiscally sound government.

The new reform movement here in McHenry County has everything from moderates to tea party types. They are all working together on the reform side… just like the establishment is.
