Honda Driver Killed in Head-on Pyott Road Crash Near LITH Airport

Crystal Lake Police Investigating a Fatal Traffic Crash on Pyott Road near the Lake in the Hills Airport

On April 28th , 2014 at 5:45 PM, emergency crews responded to a report of a traffic crash on Pyott Road south of Rakow Road, Crystal Lake.

Upon arrival crews determined the crash involved three vehicles, two of which had collided head-on, before the third vehicle was involved.

Occupants of the first two vehicles suffered extensive injuries.

The driver of one vehicle was found to be entrapped within the wreckage and was extricated by Crystal Lake Fire Rescue personnel.

The driver of the other vehicle succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased by a Deputy of the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Initial investigation into this matter indicates a Toyota 4-door had been travelling south on Pyott Road from Rakow Road, when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a Honda 4-door.

The third vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, had also been northbound on Pyott Road before being struck by the Honda.

The driver of the Honda died on the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Centegra-Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry with life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Tahoe were transported to Sherman Hospital, Elgin with injuries believed to be not life-threatening.

The identities of the persons involved are withheld at this time, pending notification of immediate family.

Pyott Road was closed from the time of the crash and Emergency crews remain on the scene. It is expected the roadway will be reopened at 9:30 PM.

This matter remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.
