Caputo Arsonist Gets 15 Years

A press release from McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi:

FABIAN TORRES SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR ARSON AT JOE CAPUTO & SONS GROCERY STORE

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 27 year old Fabian J. Torres pled guilty but mentally ill to the charge of Attempt Aggravated Arson and was sentenced to serve the maximum term of 15 years in the Illinois D1partment of Corrections for his conviction on the charge.

The evidence showed that on August 21, 2011 the defendant started a fire inside the Joe Caputo & Sons Grocery Store in Algonquin when he set off an incendiary device, a glass bottle containing flammable liquid by lobbing it onto the floor of the store.

Numerous employees and customers were present during the incident as the store was open for business at the time.

Customers in the store chased the defendant out to the parking lot and detained him until the Algonquin Police responded.

The evidence further showed that the defendant suffered from mental illness which, while not a legal defense to the charge, did contribute to his criminal conduct.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys David Johnston and Sharyl Eisenstein.

    States Attorney.

Also, thanks to all of your hard working assistant states attorneys for working so hard bringing justice to our community.

  2. Why wasn’t a story about this in the “bird cage liner” AKA. NW Herald?

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what the guy ended up getting.
