Dump Truck Hits Motorcycle, Driver Cited for Failure to Yield

Motorcyclist Injured in Crash with Dump Truck

On Monday, June 16th Rescue and Crystal Lake Police Departments responded to a report of a traffic crash in the intersection of Illinois Route 31 and Illinois Route 176 involving a motorcycle and a dump truck.

Upon arrival crews located the crash within the roadway and established manual traffic direction.

Fire Rescue personnel evaluated the participants in the crash.

Initial investigation into this matter revealed that Leoncio Quezada (59) of Wheeling, Illinois had been operating a 2000 Freightliner six-wheeled dump truck, travelling south on Route 31, intending to turn left (east) onto Route 176.

Travelling north on Route 31 was Andrzej Grygorowicz (53) of Schaumburg, Illinois, operating a 2012 Yamaha motorcycle.

As the vehicles entered the intersection, the dump truck attempted to complete a left turn in the path of the motorcycle resulting in a collision between the vehicles.

Andrzej Grygorowicz was transported to Centegra McHenry Hospital with what are believed to be not life-threatening injuries.

Leoncio Quezada was not injured in this Leoncio Quezada was cited with “Failure to yield when turning left at an intersection”, Illinois Complied Statutes 625 ILCS 5.0/11-902.

Andrzej Grygorowicz was cited with “Operating a motor vehicle without the proper classification of a driver’s license”, Illinois Compiled Statutes 625 ILCS 5.0/6-104.

Traffic in the intersection was restricted for approximately 30 minutes as crews transported the injured, investigated the cause, and cleared the damaged vehicles and debris.
