“It has been my honor and privilege these past eight days to engage with our Members in a robust discussion on how to move our conference and our country in a better direction.

“Eric’s loss was a shock to all of us, and as we move forward we must do so united in the fight against the policies that are holding our economy and our people back.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Steve on his election.

“He ran a great race and I look forward to working together to achieve conservative policy wins that improve the lives of the American people.”

  1. In reading articles about this, it seems Roskam wasn’t even a real contender.

  2. It would appear the members of Congress threw the Tea Party groups a little bit of a bone.

Based on the ratings provided by Heritage, Roskam ranks at number 211 while Scalise is rated at number 53.

The highest ranking Illinois member of Congress is Hultgren at number 93.

Rating numbers are based on all Republicans and the Independents in the House and Senate.

Roskam is not even close to being a true conservative – he votes on issues to get re-elected.

  3. Roskam wasn’t sufficiently pro-Israel …he actually dared to put America’s interests ahead of a foreign nuclear and bioweaponized power!

  4. Roskam wasn’t sufficiently pro-Israel, unlike people like Marky Mark Kirk.

Roskam had the effrontery to actually put America’s interest ahead of a foreign nuclear and bioweaponized power.

  5. How Steve Scalise Smoked Peter Roskam In Whip Race

Has Roskam every lost a political race?

He began serving in the Illinois House in 1993.

He’s always been in conservative districts, based in Wheaton.

Although that area has become less conservative over time, he did seem to be remapped into a conservative district.

Will be interesting to see how Scalise fairs.

Seems to be a formidable competitor.
