6th District Congressman Peter Roskam, who represents Algonquin Township in McHenry County, could did not garner enough votes to move up from the appointive position of Chief Deputy Whip to Whip in Thursday afternoon’s Republican Party Caucus.

Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise won the contest.

While a conservative for his entire career,  the former staffer and successor to Congressman Henry Hyde, Roskam was elected before Tea Party U.S. Representatives gained office.  He apparently was not able to connect sufficiently well with them.
