Attempted Revenge for Stolen Narcotics Gets Man 12 Years

JOSEPH ZIEGLER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE OFFENSES OF AGGRAVATED ARSON, ARSON, AND BURGLARY

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Joseph Ziegler, 24,
formerly of Round Lake Beach, was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of
Corrections for the offenses of Aggravated Arson, Arson, and Burglary.

This case was investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

The evidence at trial showed that Ziegler intentionally set a fire that burned two vehicles and an entire household.

Ziegler was seeking revenge over stolen narcotics and had intended on burning the household of whom he thought was responsible for stealing his narcotics.

Ziegler, however, set fire to the house of a nearby neighbor of the intended target.

This case was prosecuted by Robert Zalud and David Johnston of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The sentences will run concurrently and the Defendant will be required to serve 85% of the sentencing term pursuant to truth in sentencing provisions.
