Defense Department Transfers to Sheriff’s Department

With comments about the militarization of the Ferguson, Missouri, police, it seemed appropriate to ask the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for information about what it has gotten from the Department of Defense.

An article from the Chicago Tribune's Sunday edition entitled, "Obama orders study of police militarization."

Defense Department Transfers to Sheriff’s Department — 15 Comments

  1. We’re missing some of those $2000 toilet seats and $800 hammers the Pentagon likes to buy.

If you can get the price tag on some of this junk.

I’ll pay my second installment taxes this week, with like stuff from one of those Army Surplus stores.

I’ll provide a slight discount and say ship them 4 of those probably $300 sweats and I’ll throw in a pack pack.

Does that work for you County Treasurer?

I believe in win win for everyone.

  2. I’m a little shocked that the Humvees don’t have a worn out spot on the driver’s side door from a definitely-not-officially-sanctioned “Undersheriff” sticker.

  3. So, the SHERIFF’S DEPT.

Gets a van from the LAW ENFORCEMENT Sharing Program and it has a “building operations” logo on it.

Aren’t these vehicles supposed to be used by POLICE and not janitorial staff?

Why aren’t the deputies using this?

    Outrageous

  4. Thanks Cindy.

At $23.94 for a pair for socks, I’m running down to WalMart and pick up twice the number of socks to supply our boys and girls and cover my second installment taxes.

County Treasurer will be happy and I just whacked my tax bill by 70%.

  5. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, with Iraq III heating up and ever-increasing babble from the Pentagoons and neocon crazies, maybe the gendarmes will have to give all these nice toys back to the military so they can continue their bankrupting, futile, unconstitutional, immoral and really stupid wars of occupation ……

Funny how these items were never given to the Border Patrol where they are really needed!

  6. Why did they need a GOLF CART at over $2,000.00 they bought it for what?

  7. voter, there is no free lunch.

Check out what MCSD spent to upgrade and maintain the “free” MARV and MRAP.

What do you think the Feds paid for the mini MagLite that you can buy at Farm & Fleet for less than $10?

  8. IL MCHENRY FLASHLIGHT 30 Each $278.92 9/9/2013
    IL MCHENRY FLASHLIGHT 9 Each $295.48 1/7/2014
IL MCHENRY FLASHLIGHT 24 EA $896.71
    IL MCHENRY FLASHLIGHT 22 Each $63.87 1/2/2014

According to the website I posted yesterday.

These are the flashlights prices, Gus.

Cal says the photos are the things “given” by the feds.

I don’t see them listed on that site as freebies.

  9. Cal! Where do we start with the investigation on how our money is being foolishly spent?

Someone needs to be held responsible for decadent spending.

  10. Watch out what web sites you are getting your information from.

    This is a bogus site.

People should check this out before posting things and getting the people riled.

  11. Well if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black!

I guess that makes you an expert on bogus.
