The McHenry County Transportation Department has posted minutes of the August 28, 2014, meeting to which members of the County Board, the general public and the media were prohibited from attending.

I find interesting that the term CFI (for Continuous Flow Intersection) has been changed to “DLT (for Displaced Left Turn Intersection).

This was the preferred option of the McHenry County Board before opposition arose.

For some reason, “changing the name to protect the guilty” comes to mind.

This is the first place that the “triple left turn lanes” on Algonquin Road seems to have appeared in print, except for this McHenry County Blog article on August 20th.

The term “stakeholder” continues to be used.

I still have problems with anyone spending taxpayer dollars not considering taxpayers “stakeholders.”

The final vote on the project, the cost of which is unknown but was estimated to be above $100 million is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, September 16th at 7 PM.

  1. I wouldn’t read much into the name change.

Continuous flow intersection is the term favored by engineers and transportation enthusiasts.

Displaced left turn intersection is the term favored by bureaucrats at the Federal HighWay Administration.

Since they were angling for federal funding, using the FHWA’s terminalogy makes a lot of sense.

Now that the CFI/DLT option is dead, can we focus on the rest of this taxpayer robbery plan?
