Algonquin Township Assessments Get Negative Multiplier of 4.22%

Real estate assessments on property in Algonquin Township will be decreased by 4.22% as a result of the McHenry County Supervisor of Assessments having applied what is called a “negative multiplier.”

That does not mean tax bills will decrease.

That’s because lots of tax districts, especially schools, are not at their maximum tax rate.

That’s because they were forced down by the Property Tax Cap as inflation drove up property values.

What’s that mean?

If not at the maximum tax rate, a tax district can get what it asks for

Maybe some of the school districts in Algonquin Township have showed restraint in their budget levying, but, if so, I haven’t noticed.

  1. Think property taxes in McHenry County are high now?

Wait until Madigan and the rest of the state political machine shifts pension funding from the State budget to your local school board budget!!!

Even if Rauner is elected as governor, there is still the ‘lame duck’ session during which the Dems have veto proof majorities.

Even after the election, I am not confident that the Dems will lose their veto proof power because Republicans can not convince enough people to run for the Senate or the House.
