Ridge Reed hasn’t worked for the SOS over 2 years. Is this a re post of last year?

This is not a repost from last year.

There are a few different sources for salaries of Secretary of State employees.

    $72,379
Note: “Data Year” in BGA is the year BGA received the data, not the fiscal year (FY) or the year of the data itself.

    Pension Database
Reed C Ridge began receiving a State Employment Retirement System (SERS) pension on 8/1/13.
Pension Amount – Years of Service
    $25,173 – 20.92.
    $25,546 – 21.08.
    http://www.bettergov.org

The typical SERS member contributes 4% of their payroll to the SERS pension fund and receives 1.67% credit per year served.

So 30 years of service provides a pension of 50% of final average compensation.

    .0167 x 30 = .50 = 50%.

Final average compensation is the 48 highest consecutive months of service, within the last 120 months of service.

Members could retire earlier if the sum of their age plus years of service equaled or exceeded 85.

The typical SERS member also contributes to Social Security.

Thus most Illinois State employees whom contribute to SERS, receive an SERS pension plus Social Security.

Another nuance of Illinois state pensions is there are Tier 1 and Tier II benefits.

Tier II benefits apply to anyone beginning employment after January 1, 2011.

As a reminder there are 5 “state” pension funds in Illinois.

    State Employment Retirement System (SERS).

    Judges Retirement System (JRS).

    General Assembly Retirement System (GARS).

    Teachers Retirement System (TRS).

    State University Retirement System (SURS).

SERS, JRS, and GARS fall under an umbrella organization called State Retirement Systems (SRS).

SRS itself is not a pension fund, just an organization that provides administrative support to SERS, JRS, & GARS members.

Its self stated goal is to educate members about the retirement, disability and death benefits afforded under each System.
