Twice today I received a robo-call from something called “The Illinois Truth Team.”
It came twice.
In fact, it may have come three times, because one time there was so much dead air that I hung up.
The call started by saying that State Senator Karen McConnaughay and State Rep. Mike Tryon had voted to put us deeper in debt “last week.”
A bit strange, because the Illinois General Assembly was not in session Christmas week.
The subject was the bill allowing the McHenry County Conservation District to borrow more money without asking voter permission.
It didn’t mention State Senator Pam Althoff’s name, but it was clearly about the bill that she and McConnaughay jointly sponsored.
(See Althoff’s defense here. Note commenters’ critiques.)
People were urged to call Governor Pat Quinn at 1-312-814-2121 and request he veto the bill.
There was more to the message, but I didn’t have pen and paper ready.
A phone number was given at the end by the woman who recorded the message. I jotted down “224.” It had a “239” and I also heard “1899.”
I think that was the order, but the caller deliberately lowered her voice as the message ended.

Note that I am not in McConnaughay’s and Tryon’s part of Crystal Lake, but am in the precinct just north of their northern district line.
