The Empty Governor’s Office

When Governor Richard Ogilvie left office, he left only one thing in the staff part of the second floor complex.

Due to the vagaries of the calendar, I guess that Governor Dan Walker was sworn in after the Illinois General Assembly–as opposed to this year.

I walked through the rooms and found only one thing.

To my surprise, it related to McHenry County.

It was Richard Kissel’s report on assessment inequities that had been completed late in the administration of Richard Ogilvie.

(I can’t find my copy.  Algonquin Township Assessor Bob Kunz remembers having one, but it got lost when water got into his office.  No one in the various state archives have a copy either.  Too bad, because it quite well laid out the inequities in assessment levels among McHenry County’s townships.)

Now comes Chicago Tribune cartoonist Scott Stantis with a cartoon for which he is seeking captions.

Tribune cartoonist Scott Santos surmises that outgoing Governor Pat Quinn emptied his office upon exiting.

Just thought you ought to know that when one party’s governor is ousted by the opposite’s, there are residual feelings.
