A press release from Governor Bruce Rauner:
Governor Forms Commission on Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Bruce Rauner signed Executive Order 15-14 today, which establishes the Illinois State Commission on Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform.
The commission will examine the current criminal justice system and sentencing structure to develop comprehensive and evidence-based strategies to improve public safety.
It will analyze all aspects of the current system from the initial arrest to re-entry into the community.
Some areas the commission will specifically examine are ensuring there is uniformity in sentencing structure, sentencing practices, community supervision and the use of alternatives to prison.
“Illinois is in desperate need of criminal justice reform. Our prisons are overcapacity and too many offenders are returning to prison,” Gov. Rauner said. “We need to take a comprehensive, holistic approach to our justice system.”
The Department of Corrections (DOC) is operating at more than 150 percent of the inmates it was designed to house, which threatens the safety of inmates and staff.
It also undermines the DOC’s ability to rehabilitate.
Many of those inmates often return to prison; the recidivism rate in Illinois hovers around 50 percent.
Hope, he has plans to release the wrongly convicted.
A task force should be set up to release the innocent for crimes they have not committed.
Duncan I agree with you.
Sometimes a verdict can depend upon how good an actor your attorney is.
There are many many innocent people in jail.
I do agree with Rauner,as there has to be a change.
It’s nice to see somebody interested in meaningful reform.
I get it now, Prim is a freaking genius!
Employ convicted violent criminals, and keep them from going back to prison and help to resolve the problem of overcapacity in our prisons.
And I thought that Prim lost his marbles, boy was I wrong, he’s brilliant!
I know, let’s throw more people in prison than in any other country in the world and call ourselves “free”.
Let’s throw people in prison for drug possession and make more laws and throw more people in prison and build more prisons with money we don’t have.
Ignore Eric, it’s best not to acknowledge him, as his agenda on this blog is political. Right Jim Harrison?
Both, “whackamole” and “Eric”, have a political agenda, and have no interest in transforming our community for the better. Therefore, It’s best to ignore them. Now they are attacking Cal. I have been told that Eric is Jim Harrison. and he has these wild fantasies about running the States Attorneys office. Which, is why he didn’t burn his political signs during the last election, and they were returned to him. In other words, there is an ulterior motive to his comments, while trying to appear as if he has integrity. The fact that Harrison has not disclosed those famous land records, is lacking in the integrity department big time. And, his client is Tamara Demodica AKA “Fukoku” Therefore, he should be ostracized!
It is hard to ignore the truth Duncan, the facts speak for itself.
You can try to distract my position by calling me names and claming that I am someone else and you could even remain silent like Cal, or hide under a rock like Prim to avoid to make a comment, the facts are, Matt McNamara was hired as the deputy chief of patrol at the sheriff’s office and he is a convicted violent criminal.
Whatever or which way the new regime tries to twist the facts, the facts will always remain the same that Matt McNamara is a convicted violent criminal.
As hard as you try to ignore this fact, this fact will never go away.
So keep on ranting Baby Boo Boo, you are truly entertaining.
