My daughter Alexandra is 33 today.
Unfortunately, I cannot spend it with her, but I can remember her favorite book as a two-year old.
But I can’t find a copy of “I’m a Little House.”
It was part of a series by “I.M. Tubby,” a fictional author of vinal plastic books meant to withstand feeding and baths.
Published by Little Simon (ISBN 978067145556680 in 1982, the year of Alexandra’s birth.
How do I know the ISBN number?
The new Children’s Librarian at the Crystal Lake Public Library, Jennifer Drinka, came to speak to my Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club a bit over two weeks ago and I asked her if she could locate the book.
She found out about the book, but couldn’t find a library that stocked it.
She even looked at antique book stores. It wasn’t there either.
I wanted to illustrate this story with a copy of parts of it, but no one has uploaded an image that I could find.
In any event, I remember most of the text:
I’m a little house.
I have a little Mommy.
I have a little Daddy.
I have a little baby who gets lots of kisses. (You can guess what happens when this page is read.)
I have a little doggie.
I have a little kitty.
I’m as happy as can be.
Won’t you come live with me?
I may have missed a line or two, but you get the picture.
Thank you for sharing your story, Cal!
I love the photo of your daughter and am so grateful you asked for my help in finding the book.
One of my favorite things about being a Librarian is going on treasure hunts for beloved books. 🙂
ADORABLE!
A great story.
Hopefully, your daughter finds a way to make peace with everything and she chooses to develop a relationship with her father once again…..
All the best Cal.
That’s a tough assignment, Cal.
Nothing on Amazon, ABE books or EBay.
I don’t know where else to look.
Did you ever find her, Cal?
I was wondering about her when I came to read your blog.
I have.
