Those who don’t want to Conservation District to raise taxes might consider applying for the spot.
The only restriction is that one cannot be a Precinct Committeeman.
Here is a chance for the County Board to show its true colors.
Will they appoint another zealot, another cheerleader who thinks more Conservation District always equals better Conservation District, or will they appoint a skeptic, a taxpayer watchdog who demands that the Conservation District justify its budget?
To qualify, you must be able to ride a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. (inside joke for those not in the know)
Everyone remember the mortgage crisis of 2008-2010 , when credit was locked up, real estate prices crashed, virtually no property sales were possible, and it looked like the end of the world as we knew it in terms of financial institutions?
Here are land purchases by MCCD during that time period.

( price per acre is correct, discrepancies are due to rounding of acreage numbers).
Are the offices of McHenry County College trustee and MCCD board member “incompatible”?
If I apply, will my buddy Lou come after me and file legal action again?
Susan, you do realize that all that land was purchased with bond funds approved by the voters of McHenry County right?
Bonds were also sold without a referendum in 1995 or 1996.
It is an excellent point that a referendum passed to allow borrowing and spending up to a certain limited percentage of EAV.
The excellent point should be made to future tax hike referendum voters that there is no constraints or oversight on whose parcels are chosen to be purchased, nor on the amount per acre that MCCD may pay for those land purchases.
Voting Yes on any MCCD referendum in the future would be likely to produce results such as we may now study; paying prices for land that are not reflective of current land price conditions nor credit lockup conditions.
It should be emphasized in any future referendum that land purchases by MCCD are at the sole discretion of Trustees who have no responsibility to be prudent with taxpayer money, they are simply enabled by law to spend as much as stated in referendum and pay as high a price for land as they wish.
