Former Crystal Lake Library Board President and still a Trustee Carol Heisler came up with the idea.

Kiwanis should sponsor a Little Free Library in Crystal Lake.

The first one was located at the Nature Center on the North side of town.

Built by Kiwanis member and First Midwest Banker Brad Knebel, it was installed last June.

The woman who keeps it filled with both kids’ and adult books is Kiwanian and Families ETC Program Director Chris Foley.

If one was a good idea, why not two, thought members of the club dedicated to helping children and best know for Peanut Day nationally and the Santa Run locally.

So Bill Dysart was recruited to build a second Little Free Library.

It was erected by the Park District in early December.

Sue Gavle will be the Steward of the Main Beach box of books.

Both she and Dysart attended Kiwanis Club luncheons (held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Crystal Lake Country Club).

I was out of town for the meeting Val and Bill Dysart’s attended, but got the photo you see of Gavle and Kiwanis President Mike Splitt at last Wednesday’s meeting.

The first Little Free Library in Crystal Lake is across from Crystal Lake Central High School at 70 W. Franklin Street.  It is in Michael Penkava’s front yard

There is another one at 1420 Trailwood Drive.  Tom Gelinas keeps it stocked with books.

I’m advocating a Little Free Library for West Beach.

Any handyman or woman who would be willing to build one. Kiwanis will pay for materials.
