Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley held a fundraiser last Thursday at the Crystal Lake Country Club even though he has over $9,000 in the bank and no one on the ballot running against him.

He does, however, have a write-in opponent, Sascha Chadwick.

To the best of my knowledge, no write-in candidate has ever been elected to office in Crystal Lake.

Vance Roberts ran a campaign for City Council back in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s after he learned that fellow Jaycee Chuck Scott, a former Jaycee President (slogan – “Get off the pot with Scott”), running for re-election, was moving east.

Roberts didn’t win his maybe four-day, last minute campaign, but the local Establishment was worried enough that they took down his signs, legally placed 100 feet from the door of polling places, on election day.
