MCC President’s Secret Evaluation Tuesday

There are three items of significance on Tuesday night’s 6:30 meeting of the McHenry County College Board:

  • PUBLIC COMMENTS Three (3) Minutes Per Person or Less
  • PRESIDENT’S REPORT
  • CLOSED SESSION A. 120/2(C) Exception #1, Personnel (President’s Evaluation)

Previous boards have set the cycle for consideration of the college President’s pay so the outgoing board can renew the President’s contract before newly-elected Board members can be seated.

Having the evaluation before the April election is part of that strategy.

  1. Any idea what quorum is?

I was just wondering if the number game is right to postpone this until the next Board takes over.

If 4/7 trustees don’t show, can they still hold the meeting?

  2. Joe, seriously you would recommend for the next several months the College Board shuts down all action?

As much as I don’t like the current Board and President.

These people are elected officials who are responsible for completing the duties they were elected to fill.

Your comment reminds me of the Democrats who left Wisconsin while the Act 10 law needed them present before it could pass.

  3. Well, I don’t know man.

    I’m just kicking around ideas.

A lot of people are going to complain about it if she gets a renewal.

    Do you have any ideas?

  4. If the majority, 4 of 7. wanted to postpone the vote they can vote no to the agenda item, motion to delay the vote until after the election etc.

Being in the majority gives you options.

Of course they’d have to have the testicular fortitude required to do the right thing.

Then next month change the rule so that this always happens when a new board is seated and not prior to that.

Shame on her, the administration and any board member that thinks this is acceptable

  5. The proposed President’s employment contract should be posted on the MCC website for public review for at least 30 days before any board vote is made on the contract.

Ditto any employment contract or collective bargaining agreement.

Taxpayers should have the opportunity to review and comment on PROPOSED contracts BEFORE they are approved not AFTER they are approved.

Board’s do something similar for other matters.

Introduce the document at Meeting 1.

Discuss the document at Meeting 2.

Vote on the document at Meeting 3.

The time frame from Meeting 1 to Meeting 3 is a minimum of 30 days.

That’s real transparency and direct voter involvement of how voter dollars are spent.

  6. All votes should wait until the new board memebers are in.

Look what they did to Sheriff Prim.

  7. I like that, Mrs. Just postpone that particular vote. That way they can get to other business like Brent brought up.

  8. Imagine the inefficiency and blatant corruption that would be possible if you had a contract renewed by a board that had been in power for a week.

Look, I am no fan of the current administration but think of what you are saying.

The sitting board is the board you all wanted to make the vote the last time here contract was up- the board that was coming in and people actually petition the board to not extend her contract.

It takes months to learn the nuances of a board- to REALLY understand how to do your job.

Managing a multi million operation does not just come down to cutting taxes- Lobby the sitting board with your concerns and opinions.

Let them know how the general population feels- hold your sitting elected officials accountable.

This constant change is no better than the complacency that existed on this and other boards for years.
