McHenry Township Presentation on Scams Wed.

A press release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department:

Sheriff’s Office to Conduct Presentation on Scams

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with Senior Services to present information on current scams now surfacing in McHenry County.

The presentation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the McHenry Township – Senior Services offices, 3703 N Richmond Road in Johnsburg.

Scams that target our community are always changing. As part of the Sheriff’s quarterly educational series, this presentation will provide information on tax scams and other current trends observed in the last three months.

Tips will be given on

  • what to watch out for
  • how to protect yourself
  • what to do if you become a victim

After a short presentation, attendees will be able to meet in small groups with Deputies and Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office.

Attendees are encouraged to bring 2-4 pieces of recently received mail that they think might be a scam.

This will be your chance to ask the experts and learn more, helping to prevent you from becoming a victim. All documents will then be properly shredded.

This presentation is designed to provide helpful information for all McHenry County residents. Those who are caregivers to a senior or are seniors themselves are especially encouraged to participate, because too often seniors are the targeted victims.
