Defenders’ Awards

At last Sunday’s Annual Meeting of the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, the Theta Award was presented to the Illinois Environmental Council.

Representing the statewide environmental organization were President  Lenore Beyer-Clow and Executive Director Jen Walling.

They received this top award to a non-member of the Defenders from President Nancy Schietzelt.

Another award was given to the McHenry Library District because of its installation of solar energy panels.

The ten kilowatt alternative energy source will provide 3-5% of the institution’s electric needs.

Defenders Board member Cynthia Kanner gave one of the two Volunteer of the Year awards to Barb Day, who has all but taken over the newsletter role.

Jim Kanner was named the Young Defender of the Year. He was a consistent helper at re-cycling events.  (See his photo here.)
