Soil borings are scheduled to continue along the Randall Road corridor beginning the week of March 16th.

This work will require some temporary lane closures so crews and motorists can safely share the road. This work will take place between 9am and 3pm.

At the end of each workday, the closures will be removed.

Below is the schedule, weather permitting and subject to change:

  1. McHenry County website for Randall Road improvements.

    http://www.randallroad.info

Don’t see any actual or projected cost estimates on that website.

Instead would have to wade through or FOIA information from the county.

Since there is no north/south expressway/tollway between I-39 in Rockford and I-355 / I-290 / I-53 in the western suburbs, about the only road options are to widen roads, create turn lanes or continuous flow intersections, and time traffic lights.

The Fox Valley Freeway is a dormant idea.

Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) has nothing in their plans for such an expressway through 2040.

CMAP has quite a bit about on congestion pricing and investing in rail.

Maybe sensors on cars / collision warning systems / vehicle crash sensors and driverless cars in the future would reduce crashes which would in turn reduce congestion.

Since nothing is perfect and it’s a creepy thought to be killed by a driverless car, that idea doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the foreseeable future, even if it does save lives overall.

What would be cost of liability insurance on a driverless car and the lawsuit settlements for driverless car caused deaths, not to mention the bad publicity.

With the high cost of road construction at prevailing wages in the Chicagoland area, something has to give.

Increased taxes, more tolls, decreased wages / benefits.

Once again where’s the McHenry County Department of Transportation costs estimates for the entire Randall Road expansion project, planning through construction.

    In a budget somewhere.

Remember the Randall Road Continuous Flow intersection controversy last year.

  2. Looks downright dead on a Tuesday at Noon!!!.

With the population continually decreasing why aren’t they spending tax payer money elsewhere, where it’s really needed!

There are other intersections crying out for help in this county.

Anyone know why THIS intersection takes priority? (especially when they just did a bypass project)

Think of all the businesses that will lose their shirts during construction, thus more people losing jobs!
