Spring Grove Referendum Tanking

There are not election day results posted yet, but from the early voting, the Spring Grove police pension tax referendum, one can predict without much chance of being wrong that the referendum has failed.

  1. Maybe taxpayers are ticked off about all the legislative pension hikes to underfunded police and fire pensions.

    Or maybe taxpayers of tired of police and fire chiefs receiving a pension and salary simultaneously, being the way the various pension laws in Illinois are written.

    The Spring Grove police pension fund is 36% funded, with an unfunded liability in 2013 of $3,332,424.

    36% funding is awful, reflecting very poor fiscal discipline.
