“Priest” Reflects on Public Unions

Under the article reporting on the threatening of McHenry County Board members who voted for Governor Bruce Rauner’s Turnaround Agenda are a number of interesting comments.

This one, by “Priest” might get you thinking:

Forgive this self indulgence please…

I’ve been thinking about how to describe government to the uninitiated and to what the arguments across the political spectrum distill down.

Parasites keep coming to mind.

Parasites are not neutral.

They can be beneficial or destructive.

Occasionally a particular parasite can be one or the other at any given time.

This line of musing can be misinterpreted so please let me be clear.

This is directed at no individual or particular profession but is merely a line of thought based upon how destructive public unions are to a free society.

Trade unions are particularly harmed by public unions because people tend to lump them together and trade unions have been, and continue to be, a legitimate necessary force in the marketplace.

Public unions are another animal altogether.

This is a side path to the initial musing….

Parasites.

All of government in any society throughout history is a parasite on the body of producers.

In a healthy symbiotic relationship the parasite actually helps the producer to be more healthy and have a better chance of survival.

In a destructive relationship the parasite selfishly gorges itself on the producer and sickens or kills them.

Every single fight politically may be drawn down to this balance.

Today The People have precious few representatives in the fight to keep the body healthy.

Every last person paid for with public monies seems to be working very hard to suck as much from the body of the producers as their piggy little bodies can handle.

The few who are trying very hard to strike a balance are lumped in whole with the majority who are working for the destruction of the producing class.

It is a difficult situation for those who are trying to identify the healthy parasites from the little piggies so the destroyers may be removed forever from the body.

Back to public unions…

There is nothing a public union offers which is positive for the producer.

If District 300 teachers decide to gather for a meeting outside of some school as these Huntley District 158 ones did, at least it won't be in the biting cold.

District 158 teachers decide to gather for a meeting outside of school while they were on strike.

They force good police to deal with weak sticks who should be fired or, worse yet, prosecuted. They work for terrible school contracts which pay administrators insane compensation/retirement benefits while keeping money from the actual classroom where the teacher is forced to work with little or no backup relative to the per student monies brought in to the district.

They promote the most ignorant people to public office through financial and physical help because those people are easily controlled.

They attempt to smear those who stand against them (Rauner was accused of paying no personal payroll taxes when the reality is he employs thousands who pay millions of dollars he produced through his efforts and investment).

Public unions are the parasite no one should support because they are a parasite which kills everything and everyone around them.

They do not recognize friend or foe.

Sigh….

A book could be written with these rambling musings using defense or roads or fire or health or any number of societal functions as the discussion points….

If the next time you look at a unit of government and measure their usefulness against how much parasitical behavior can be tolerated before they’re destructive you may surprise yourself at how much government can be cut from our lives with actual positive results.

But first and foremost we should work to abolish public unions and remove any members who actually have the gall to threaten others from civil company and freedom.

“Priest” Reflects on Public Unions — 16 Comments

  1. Fantastic comment..

this should go to the Chicago Tribune Editorial section..

  2. The Petition Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of the people “to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

  3. Dont forget the parasites that rely upon the unions endorsements to be re-elected.

All parties are guilty of it.

  4. Great comment.

    Measured, appropriate, rational, spot on.

I wish the “good” union people would stop supporting the abusive unions simply because they are “unions”.

  5. Thanks Mike, I was not there at the meeting, but once when at a zoning board meeting were held for a shooting range of Queen Ann Road was purposed and also a bunch of NRA supporters were there.

Yes, they might have looked intimidating with their leather jackets and giving out fliers etc, but in a democratic and civil society we should be able to have apposing views.

Also, I am concern that we do not have any member of “the other party” elected in this county.

Doesn’t this mean that we are really talking to ourselves and disregard others?

  6. What a beautiful day to work outside.

When I come in I get to see this very complimentary gesture.

    Thank you Cal.

Funny how windshield time and lawn mowing lend themselves to these types of musings.

I’m a big fan of the opportunity you afford to comment anonymously.

This site allows for the very Jeffersonian principle of ideas rising and falling on their own merit.

Steve did a very eloquent job once or twice of defining and shutting down the attacks against people which were happening to allow logic and philosophy to win or lose the day.

I know folks want to attack the pseudonyms.

These allow only ideas to rise or fall on their own merit rather than being sidetracked with attacks on the person.

I’m thankful this little thought made some people think.

There are excellent ideas from all parts of the political spectrum.

The tragedy is the lack of conversation and civil engagement this country used to engage in with one another.

If we all could get off the insane poopyhead libtard teabagger gun nut hippie fruitcake race baiter insert hypocritical idiotic name calling here hamster wheel and argue ideas this county and country might move forward faster.

I’m anxious to see Paul work and others try harder to be less partisan and more logical in their evaluations of government and its proper role…

    Service above self.

  7. I can recall several of Priests comments that have been worthy of showcasing.

He is obviously well read, having shown some quite admirable insight and understanding of our history and the principle’s of liberty, as well as government & politics.

Priest, I’d love to have a conversation with you sometime. If you are ever so inclined, you can email me at Paul@LakewoodTaxFighter.com or else Cal Skinner can get my phone number to you.

  8. That is what the part time workers called teachers do best, strike. But they strike FOR THE CHILDREN. They lie as much as hillary and obama

  9. Better government cannot be accomplished without all of the participants.

So nice, to see Cal profiling all of our crusaders.

Every single person is valuable in this cause to change McHenry County government for the better. We have many, many heroes whose voices are being heard by the people.

We can overcome because of people like “Priest”

  10. Thank you, Paul, for the kind words and the offer.

Yes, I’ve read widely of Aesop’s Fables and Dr. Suess.

I’ve even seen Disney’s version of Robin Hood where the emperor has no clothes.

This really is all we need to see the folks in publicly paid for positions aren’t doing anything new which hasn’t been tried and failed before in history.

Connect with groups who understand local governance, Robert’s Rules and what Best Practices are for pushing through the nonsense to real lasting change for the better.

    I’m around.

    I’ll find you.

    We’ll talk.

I’ll look forward to it and I’m certain we’ll enjoy the conversation.

  11. Under today’s public sector labor laws (including collective bargaining) in Illinois, in conjunction with pension and retiree healthcare laws, and given that taxpayers are not organized, organized public sector unions in cahoots with politicians have wreaked havoc on state and local finances.

There is likely a way theoretically to have public sector unions whom benefit workers, taxpayers, and employers under an entirely different set of laws.

Illinois is a long way from that point.

The laws have been changed in Illinois so that public sector organized labor has too much power.

And has been repeatedly mentioned, pension in retiree healthcare benefits been repeatedly hiked to underfunded pensions and retiree healthcare funds, creating a ponzi type scheme, allegedly to benefit public sector union employees (and others).

Illinois is broke and broken, with bogus damaging changes to state law leading the charge.
