Woodstock Fire/ Rescue District responded to the new Woodstock Harley-Davidson location (former Kmart store) just before 10:00 A.M. yesterday for a construction worker that fell approximately 10 feet.

When we arrived, it was confirmed that a worker had accidentally fallen through the hole about 10 to 12 feet to the main concrete floor below.

The worker was on the second-floor mezzanine area and was moving the plywood covering over a hole to begin construction of the stairs connecting the mezzanine and main floor.

The worker had been working alone at the time of the accident.

The victim, whose name and age were not released, was unconscious and in critical condition, with signs of a head injury.

He was transported to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, where he was flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The man was still listed in critical condition as of yesterday afternoon and we have received no additional information on his condition.

  1. To all of those that hate regulations, I am sure OSHA requires more than one person to be working when a dangerous condition exists.

I know of a lady who worked at the Shah Center before remodeling and she was alone when she was hurt.

    Unacceptable.

  2. Well, once again the OSHA regulations worked, then.

See, in reality, the regulations mean very little.

They only create paperwork and bureaucracy.

Common sense needs to prevail, not governmental oversight.

    Look at Baltimore.

    Regardless, these tragedies happen.

Let’s hope and pray he recovers.

  3. Do you have a follow up on the construction worker at the new Harley Dividson?
