Is Carolyn Schofield Considering Run for State Rep.?

Carolyn Schofield

The following is from new commenter “On Target” appeared under the article about Lakewood Village Trustee Paul Serwatka’s having put $100,000 into a new campaign fund in an effort to replace State Rep. Mike Tryon in the General Assembly:

Three conservative males and one pro-choice female(Carolyn Schofield).

Liberal wins.

Others besides the new person on the comment board have suggested that McHenry County Board and former Crystal Lake City Council member Schofield is looking at the race.

She has not, however, replied to an email asking about such an ambition.

My observation when people suggested that she might be running and could win against three conservative men was

Could be.

The three men are

  • Allen Skillicorn
  • Paul Serwatka
  • Dan Wilbrandt

If she runs and is the Pro-Choice candidate backed by the pro-abortion PAC Personal PAC, she will have a formidable campaign.

It is doubtful a Pro-Choice candidate could defeat a Pro-Life candidate in a one on one race in that district, however.

Is Carolyn Schofield Considering Run for State Rep.? — 10 Comments

  1. Let’s be honest.

Nothing is going to happen in regard to abortion.

    Learn civics.

Rauner would have lost if he campaigned on a social agenda.

He won because people can be persuaded about economic and fiscal issues, because that involves data, not moral sentiments.

  2. One day Republicans will realize if they stop trying to legislate morality and just stick to government problems such as finance, corruption, education or infrastructure, for example, they would get more votes

  3. I agree 100 percent with “Joe” and “Jason.”

The days of who is “Pro Life” vs. those who are “Pro Choice,” are over.

As matter of fact, due to the fact that women DEMAND equal everything, (and rightly so), it is almost political suicide for any woman running for public office on a larger scale to run on a “Pro Life” platform. Women today, want the ‘choice’ to choose and anybody, especially any man, who tries to tell a woman what she ‘must’ do regarding her reproductive choices, will not garner MOST of the female vote. How many Pro Life events had Marlene Lantz ever attended? (My case in point)

To believe otherwise is fool hearty ………….. A candidate, either male or female should stay as far away from ‘social agenda’ as possible. The only people who believe otherwise are dinosaurs, politically speaking.

As far as seeing that Paul Serwatka has place $100,000.00 of his own cash into his campaign fund is disturbing. I am very happy to see that Mr. Serwatka has joined the race and we should all be thankful to him for placing his name forth.

That being said, why should Mr. Serwatka have to sacrifice his own family money to run for office which will benefit the citizens of his district?

Should’t those who are rooting him on ‘put out’ to support his campaign? We all enjoy watching the politics, it has become a sporting event. Yet, we are unwilling to open our check books for the privilege of watching a man burn through his life’s savings. (Not just Mr. Serwatka, I’m speaking to all candidates announced and yet to announce.)

Politics is a very fickle lover…..one day you are filled with the joy of “People like me, they really like me,” so we are built up by those who although say they will support your candidacy, don’t support you with their wallets.

When the election day comes and goes, nobody will even remember your name six months after the failed election, and a candidate is left with a huge debt. (many take out a second mortgage on their homes) A debt taken out because you believed others would jump in and give you enough money to actually allow you to compete to the finish line.

Again, we should support your favorite candidate/s with your check book. To all candidates, get financial commitments before you dig yourself a very deep financial hole.

  4. They maybe of a different sex, but they are all human.

After so many years of men screwing our gov up, it’s time for the Ladies to take the lead and mess it up also.

  5. Schofield would be formidable. If you look at her Daily Herald candidate profile, she specifically panders to:

    * the no-development NIMBYs in the county (“Groundwater protection strategies, programs, policies, and education need to be immediately implemented to reduce the potential of this negative impact on the quality of life. . . Moving forward we also need to consider future growth. Concepts such as cluster housing and multi-story buildings [only in already developed areas, natch] should be encouraged to limit the amount of required infrastructure and thus the impervious surface area.

    * and to Local 150 (“Aging infrastructure and planning for future needs should be one of the top priorities. Long term existing infrastructure improvements and enhancements should be fully identified in order to budget accordingly.”).

All she needs to do is get the teachers on board, and she’ll be rolling in campaign cash.

  6. Never cared for her on CL city Council. She was never prepared. It was obvious that she did not check her packet before the meetings.
Touts being an engineer like that is some big deal. Well, if you do not do the work , you should not have the job. Also, always went along with Shepley.

  7. What I question is Goettemoller (sp) and his connection to Schofield.

She votes for him and she is appointed to a plum position.

Will he be supporting her run for State ReP?

    Any political payback here??

  8. Cal,

Paul does not appear to have broken the caps on his election. Two things tell me that:

1.) He did not donate MORE THAN $100,000 (see SBE rule* below)

2.) He did not file a “Notification of Self-funding” within one day with the SBE as required under state law. (It might show up tomorrow but I doubt it)

    *A GUIDE TO CAMPAIGN DISCLOSURE – Page 8 https://www.elections.il.gov/Downloads/CampaignDisclosure/PDF/CampDiscGuide.pdf

candidate or public official is considered “self-funding” if, during the 12 months prior to an election, the candidate or public official or their immediate family contributes, loans, or makes independent expenditures for the benefit of the candidate, in aggregate, totaling more than $250,000 (for statewide constitutional offices) or $100,000 (for all other elective offices) to the candidate or public official’s political committee or to other political committees that transfer funds to the candidate’s or public official’s committee. Once the threshold is passed, the candidate or public official must file a Notification of Self-funding with the State Board of Elections within one day. This notification details each contribution or loan made by the candidate or public official or their immediate family. The Board will then post the notification on its website and give official notice to each candidate for the office in question, removing the normal contribution limits for those candidates.

  9. Carolyn announced via a Facebook post this morning that she is running for State Rep for District 66.
