Pinning the Tail on the Franks – Not Tonight

Jack Franks on WTTW.

Jack Franks on WTTW.

Tonight at 7, State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) was scheduled to appear on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight.

But Franks was a no show.

Replacing him will be certain override voter Lou Lang of Skokie.

The subject will be Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of Senate Bill 1229.

That’s the bill that will take collective bargaining power away from the Governor while Rauner is in office and give it to an arbitrator.

To override the Governor’s veto, 71 votes are needed.

If all Republicans stick with the Governor, that means ALL Democrats must vote for the override.

If Franks already knew that a Republican will vote for the override, he could have asserted his independence from House Speaker Mike Madigan and say he is voting with Rauner by not voting for the override.

In the State Senate, a Republican Senator voted for the override after getting thousands of messages in his state employee-righ district.

  1. I got a robocall today from the IL AFL-CIO urging me to call my state representative and tell him to vote “Yes” on SB 1229.

If they’re spending time calling into this district, they’re worried.

Maybe Jack will finally have to take a vote that actually matters.

  2. Tim to see Jack’s real Cook County colors come out!

    Go Steve go.
